Three Savvies

Today is was SO nice out!!!!!! It was in the 60's and it was sunny all day. So in the morning I played with Eddie online and we did some freestyle. There were so many distrations though, it was a really good test of my focus!!
So we did some pre-flight checks and it turned into the majority of our play session. This FedEx truck went by blaring his talk radio and Eddie hated that, then our cat was bounding through the bushes and running every where. lol! I had him do the clover leaf from the ground, so that got his mind pretty engaged. But it was funny, everytime hed cantered through the box, he bucked. How interesting! A squeeze at the canter! Something to work on!! =-D I think it was too tight a squeeze, so we're going to work on that these next couple days.
After his mind was on me and he had gotten some of his energy out, I got on and we did some preliminary things to see where we were at. Mostly just point to point, sideways, and we did a SUPER long weave. It was about 60-70 feet long. It was very fun!! So it was a great get-back-to-it session. I'm really looking forward to riding him more this fall, I haven't ridden too much since it's been cold/windy.

Then this afternoon I had my sister tape me and Eddie's Level 3 liberty. It was ok, I ran out of time (the card was full) and we didn't show everything I wanted to show.
So I'm going to re-film it and see what combination works best. We're going to wait and do it right. =-)
I love Eddie so much, we can do so much more together. I'll keep ya posted!

I'm Back! And with News!!!

HI EVERYONE!!! I'M BACK!!! We got a new computer and it is so nice! Although I'm still getting used to the keyboard. ;) hehe! Well this past weekend was the Holistic Horse Fair. It was a lot of fun! I took pictures, but the camera was left out in the rain, so they are pretty messed up. I'll try to see if I can post them later.
But GUESS WHAT??? I put my name in a raffle for a free lesson with either, Kristi Smith, Farrah Green or Michelle Manshardt. Thank you God with all my heart, because I won it!
YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I'm probably going to do it with Farrah Green and I'm going to ask her if she can come down here. That would be amazing!! (http://www.sittinghorse.us/)
I'm so excited! God is so blessing my journey. =-) I couldn't be any happier!
We're going to call back today to get information. Thank you Fran for calling and giving me the news!

But I just wanted to add one more thing. Eddie and I are just now starting to touch some Level 5 Online things. I filled out the self assessment sheet this morning and was so surprised when only about 5-6 things weren't checked off in Level 4. That means that Friendly, driving, yoyo, sideways, and squeeze are all in Level 5 and the others, porcupine and circling are in Level 4. YAY!!!

My mom leaned over to me while we were watching four instructors playing at the Holistic Horse Fair at the Horse First Farm (http://www.thehorsefirst.net/home.cfm) and she told me, "You and Eddie can do almost all that stuff," I watched. We could! She also said that I really can go very far. I guess it's just now sunken in that we can. Another thing that Kristi said is that when she first started her Instructor journey Neil Pye said, "You're going to have to want this more than air." And I believe that I do. =-)

Liberty with Eddie and my Natural Horsemanship Playlist

Yesterday I played with Eddie at liberty. We're really practicing for our Liberty Audition. Hopefully we can do it this week or next week. I just have to manage my time better, 10 minutes goes by so fast!!!
Here's a little something I made:
(it's coming...)
It's all my favorite natural horsemanship videos!

I'm hoping to play with Eddie online when mom gets back.
TTYL! Wish us luck! =-)

~Lea

P.S. These are the songs I'm going to use for my liberty audition, Stop & Listen by Bethany Dillon and Ready for a Change by Katie Drake. For my online I'm going to use Letting Go by Katie Drake and Beautiful Ending by Barlow Girl. It's going to be so much fun!!

Trims & Spins

Today was a lot of fun!
Mike came to trim the horses up at around 11:30 and it was raining a bit. But it let up after a little bit. ;-) Diesel did SO well!! Mike was able to do all his feet. If you're reading this Mike, thank you so much for taking the time with him. It's a huge hurdle he has almost overcome.
But while he did Scout, I played with Eddie. We did a lot of liberty! He did the figure eight at the trot, circling game at walk/trot/canter, sideways towards and away. But the coolest things that he did, oh my gosh, they were amazing! He trotted sideways towards for 5-7 steps!!!!!! We had done it a few times before but this time he really offered it!! I'm definitely going to send in my Level 3/4 Liberty audition this week. I'm SO excited!!! Then he did one more awesome thing, we're starting spins! I did it about 3 times online, then we went to liberty. He did them so effortlessly! I sent him around, hid his hiney and he faced me! Yay!! One more thing!!! ;-) He did the change of direction at the trot!! YAY!!!!!
So I'm going to film it sometime this week, I'll post it on here when I have it up. =-)

Getting Ready for a Trailer

Well Eddie and I didn't do much together except take a walk around the pasture and of course I was out there a lot feeding, moving and keeping an eye on them. Then it rained this afternoon. =-( Oh well, tomorrow we're going to play!!
Our friends (thank you Mrs. Brotz and Danielle!) are going to bring their trailer over in 2 weeks for me to borrow.
I'm so excited to for it to come! That means we can do our Level 3 Online audition!!! YIPPEEE!! I know that we can pass that, Eddie and I have come a long way. =-)
So we're just going to play with it once it comes and get used to the whole idea of it. Since it's a step-up we're going to get used to that and see how our play times go with it. I think he'll do fine with it, he trusts me and I think that will pay off with a new obstacle.
We'll see how it goes!! We're going to take it nice and slow.

Tag! You're It! ~~~ What do you want to do with your life?

By Lauren Mitchell:
What do YOU want to do with your life?
Make a post telling your readers what you are going to do to change the world, why you are doing it, and how are you going to do it. God has a purpose for EVERYONE be it to be a parent, a missionary, or to just show your faith on your sleeve!?! I the maker of this tag feel God is calling me at 13 years of age to help my fellow teens! When I grow up I want to take in unwanted teenagers and rescue horses/3 strike mustangs. God has placed a desire in my heart and I feel led to do this. The big thing is not one person has told me this isn't possible because with God EVERYTHING is possible! Right now I am working on wearing my faith on my sleeve and showing the world that 1 person CAN make a difference! Even a 13 year old named Lauren Mitchell! Lets show the world how serious we are and that being a Christian is AMAZING! Here is the link to the blog~
http://walkofaith.blogspot.com/
Take a look at it! Now pass it on!

~Rules~
1. Post the paragraph that I, Lauren Mitchell, wrote
2. Post the paragraph of what you are going to do to change the world, why, and how you're doing it
3. Post these rules
4. Post the blog link
5. Put the button and awards I made on your blog
6. Tag at LEAST 2 people
7. Contact the people you tagged one way or the other
~Lauren~

So, as a response to this tag... What do I want to do with my life? How am I going to make a difference?
I feel like God is calling me to be the best horsewoman I can be, and show His grace and His mercy to others. My song that describes what I'm trying to do is, Revolutionaries by Bethany Dillon. It's about how some people take the 'normal' easy way to get to the finish line. Usually it's not the right way. But if you take the narrow road, the road Jesus calls us down, we will be revolutionaries. So, I pray that by going down the narrow road, I will become a revolutionary in the horse world and change the world for horses - the right way. I see a few of my peers going to the same finish line, but they are are going down the normal road. Here is an exerpt from the song:
"They shake their heads
As they drive away in the bandwagon
Didn’t feel like hitching a ride
Oh, but I’ll be fine"

I know I'll have my family & friends by my side and they are going down the same road. It's not necessarily the hard/narrow road - it gets wider as you go as people walk by your side. =-)

Why am I going to do it?Because it's my gift.
What am I going to do with it? Take in rescue horses, start colts, take my relationship with Eddie to an amazing level (this is where I want to go with him - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFe65nZU_eM) and teach others how to do the same. =-)

Savvy out!

~Lea & Eddie~

He grew! But we had a great session!

Eddie grew! Or he is just more uphill now. He was 15.2 hands and he is clearly 15.3 maybe more now!!! AH!!! YAY!!!! ;-) He's so funny!

Yesterday we had a great session! We played with long reins in the pasture, then liberty in the outdoor. He did so good! I'm so proud of him. I think we're going to send in our Level 3 Online and Liberty savvies this week. I also hopped on and we did some point to point bareback and bridleless! Yippee!! I'm super excited!! And my blue string shipped, I should have it by Wednesday!! YAY!!!
Overall it's been an amazing week, and the weekend it going to be so fun!

Hey, what do you know? Plans work!

Remember? Yesterday I said I was going to play with long line driving this fall with Eddie? Well today we started! Yippee! Oh, real quick, Eddie and I have played with is before, but it's been on and off a lot. We were probably at a Level 3 standard for zone 5 driving. But lately I've just been (and I'm sure he was) bored with Level 3. Sooooooo, we're diving into Level 4! YIPPEE!!!
Today we did a lot of trotting from zone 5 just all around the pasture. We straddled the log, barrels, did the weave at a realllyyyy slowwww wallkkk...... He was so funny!
I was also using two 22 foot lines. I don't think I'll do that anymore. It was pretty heavy on his nosey. So time for the 45. *runs away and hides*  Actually it's not that bad. I'm pretty used to it. It's just going to take some caution so I don't get tangled. So it's a good thing he's a slloowww LBI. ;-) haha! I also rode, I'll tell ya about that later!
Well gtg for dinner! Off to Crissie's to see Jiggles!

Play Day with the Ponies!

Today I played with Eddie online and with Diesel online! They were both great sessions!
With Eddie we played around with some straddling/jumping/fast gaits stick to me and just throwing in some other stuff. I figured that we need to really play on our long line driving. I think he's a little bored! ;-) hehe! So this fall we're going to play with long lines as much as possible!! YAY! A plan!!!
I hopped on his for a little bit and stood on the pedestal. It was great because it was so windy!!! That's a huge step for him. He didn't care about the wind at all.
I played with Diesel after that. He did so good!!! We did the figure eight, he trotted on the circle and did point to point to different half barrels. I'm so proud of him. He's come such a long way!!

=-) for Keri

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally forgot!!!!!!!!!!!
September 6th. was my 1 year anniversary with my blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've posted... 264 times and this makes it 265.
WOW!
Well from that day we've come so far. I passed Level 1 and Level 2 and went from playing in Level 2 solidly to mostly in Level 4, some in Level 3. I cannot thank God enough for putting such an amazing horse in my life. Thank you Eddie for always being there for me and teaching me so much. Thank you mom for always supporting me and taking me to Celebrations/Clinics and Parelli outings. You've always given me the encouragement to keep going and pursue my dream. Thank you Allison and Dad for always listening whenever I want to rattle off the 45 Parelli P's, or test my knowledge of the seven games. Whether you were being my 'horse' or just watching DvD's with me, you both have always been there. Also to my amazing friends. Keri, I cannot express what an amazing friend you are. Without you I couldn't have passed my Level 2 Freestyle and you are always there to talk to. I love you like a sister! Thank you Hannah for being such an amazing inspiration and for always encouraging me when I'm down. You're humble attitude and giving spirit is one that we can all model ourselves after. And thank you to all my friends for encouragement and support. Thank you readers for listening to my ramblings. =-)

I can't believe it's been over a year with this blog.
ALSO I wanted to say a hearty HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Keri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!

Two are Better than One

Yup!
Today I played with Eddie and Scout together online! It was so much fun! First we went for two laps around the track together, then we went in the pasture and did all seven games, stood on the pedestal together (both of them) and did the weave pattern! They both did so well! It was amazing, because Eddie knew exactly what I wanted, so he would just give Scout a nip like, "You're supposed to go that way!" I love having an extra hand out there that speaks horse! Golly, he is a horse! He has truly become a part of me. =-)  So we did all the purpose games, yoyo, sideways, circling and squeeze and they both did awesome. Oh goodness, do you know what would be fun??? To do zone 5 driving with both of them! Hehe, I might just do that sometime, I'll keep you updated. ;-)
Oh yes! I also trimmed all of Diesel's feet, now they look so good! The new hoof growth on the upper 1/2 of it it amazing. It's so cool to see what good nutrition and good hoof care can do. His stress rings have almost grown out from when he came!
His little tootsies! hehe! Very muddy!
Well, till tomorrow! It's SATURDAY!!!!

Yesterday's Play Time

Yesterday before I heard back from Parelli, Eddie and I had an amazing play time. It so could have been our L3 online audition without the trailer. ;-) Anway, let me explain what we did:
I was barefoot because I didn't want to run around with him with my boots on. So we started by doing some circles (cantering) and change of directions. He did 1 flying lead change, it was so pretty, and three simple drop to trot lead changes. YAY!!! Then we did some slow and simple things to have him rest, we straddled the pole lengthwise in record time (almost under 10 seconds) and we did some weave and he did some really pretty sidepasses at the trot. Then we did some stick to me gaits and he did super good with those too. It was fun to run around barefooted as he is barefoot too!!! =-D Then I made a fun game, I had him keep his gait going while I sat on a smushed over cone. It took him a while to get that he was actually supposed to stay on the circle but once he did he offered 2-3 laps at the canter and 3-4 laps at the trot without breaking gait. YIPPEE!!! It was cool because he had done 1 lap at the trot, I brought him in from where I sat and he was like, oh! I get to rest after I run around on the circle! So once I sent him back out again, that's when he offered all those circles. Then he came in and got good scratches and lots of rests. =-) He's such a good boy!
I took out the other 22 foot line and we played with some zone 5 driving after. He did pretty good, although he was pretty sleepy from doing those circles. We straddled a barrel from Z5 and sidewaysed off of it. Then he didn't want to do anymore and he let me know it, so I took the one 22 off and I hopped on with one dragging behind us.
It was so cool, I felt so in harmony with him. I think it helped to be barefoot and helmetless! So we walked from one side of the pasture to the other and I felt like.... The only thing I can compare to what it looked/felt like was Karen Rolf in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD7Wpfqd2Vg  Of course we looked nothing at ALL like her doing it, but I just had a taste of what real, true fluidity felt like. We stood on the pedestal after that and I stood on his rump and then slid off of it. It was so much fun!
I love that horse so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just heard back from Parelli and I passed my Level 2 Freestyle with a Level 2 +!!!!!!!!!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!
I'M A LEVEL 2 GRADUATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so proud of Eddie, I cannot imagine what my life would be like without him. I just got back in from an incredible online session. I'll edit this post later with what we did, but it was amazing!!

Liberty & Level 4

Wow, I can't believe I'm saying it, but Eddie and I are really playing in Level 4 Liberty and Online. Today with liberty we straddled the barrel, sideways off it towards and away, transitions, change of directions, close circling game, sideways from zone 1 and 5, back by the tail with only a few hairs. We backed up around 7-10 steps too with just a few hairs! He's gotten so light! Then we did a little bit of zone 5 driving at liberty and straddled over a barrel and sidewaysed off it. WOW! It finally feels like he's a part of me to such a degree that we could try anything. It's amazing!!! It's also sort of funny, now that we're pretty much playing with everything in Level 4 self assessment (besides a few things) what do we work on next? I think we're just going to refine everything until it gets effortless. I'm so excited!! He is so amazing. I love him so much! I took videos so I'll see if I can get them on Youtube.
This morning in the pasture I hopped on with just the 22 foot line and he was so great! We did point to point and all I had to do was switch my focus. OH! We also did lateral flexion with just the carrot stick! YIPPEE!!!!! Extreme friendly game was also on our list and he did so great with it. Usually I don't do it on his back for some reason or another, but he did so well with it and just stood there all relaxed while I was slapping the ground from his back. I'm so proud of him. He's come so far!

More Liberty

Today was really busy, but I did get a play time with Eddie. We did a huge figure eight on the entire property. We covered a LOT of ground! We practically went all around the property. So that was fun! Then we went in the round pen and we played with some Level 4 things. We played all seven games with an obstacle (a mini barrel). He did SO good! We played all the games, then once we got to the squeeze game he decided to leave because I asked him to jump it. Well he wanted to play and trot on the circle. So I played with him! I asked him canter the circle until he wanted to come in. He dropped his head after a 3 circles and I asked him to come right in.
He did and then he jumped it completely, straddled it and sidewaysed off it from zone 5! He was being quite a LBE for a little bit, then he instantly went right back to LBI. Here's what we did with the obstacle. We friendly gamed with it, lead by the tail to it, drove him to it and away from it, yoyo-ed to and from it, circled around it close (that was really cool!), sideways off of it towards and away from zone 5 and zone 1 and lastly we straddled it and jumped it!
YAY! We even played with our transitions when he decided to leave. Upwards and downwards and backing too. I hopped on after that and we did a few laps bareback and bridleless. A few times he didn't want to bring his head up from grazing, but after a few taps with my savvy string, he brought it right up and we walked around a little bit. Oh! He even spooked! And I stayed on!! YAY! I just held on to his mane while he did a little, sudden, 90 degree turn. Yay!
So overall it was a great play session!
I played with Scout after that too. He was so funny!! We basically just ran around at liberty, did the cutting game a little bit, he reared up just a few inches because he was being SO dominant and goofy! But I knew i was safe, because all he would do is pin his ears and shake his head. No teeth! =-D He got quite collected and pranced around while we were doing stick to me at liberty. I hopped on for a few moments after that, bareback and bridleless. We walked around and then I had to go because we had to eat dinner.
It was a great day!
I can't wait until tomorrow! =-) It's going to be a fun week!

Oh! How could I forget?? We made 9 gallons of apple cider!!! Here's a video of us doing it:

Liberty & Learning

Yesterday I played with Eddie at liberty in the round pen. He's doing so well! We did the figure eight and he was so smooth! I had put my rope in my belt loop before we went to liberty and I worked on not touching it at all. We played the game, "Don't make me pick up the rope!" And he was really engaged with that! I would lean back and he would go around the half barrel and then go to the other one. So, it's going really, really, well! I'm so proud of him!!
We also played with transitions and a few changes of directions. His transitions were really good. We just have to work on him maintaining the upward ones until I ask him to slow down. But that will come with time considering he's a LBI.
I also made another video!! Check it out!
Feel free to comment, I love feedback!
And I'm still waiting for an order number and waiting to call so we can get it. Tuesday feels so far away!

Waiting!

Yup. Still waiting for results!
In the meantime...
Eddie and I played with some zone 5 driving, then he was having 'lavendar phobia' hehe! I accidentaly got some Lavendar oil on his nose and he wouldn't stop bobbing his head! Poor guy! So then I did some exercises to get his brain on me, (the horses were on the other side of the property taking a walk with mom & Al) It was pretty amazing to have them be on the other side and he was totally calm and focused on me. I love it!!!
So it was sort of hectic, but tomorrow is going o be much better. We had a good session, and he was quite obedient and focused on me. Oh! We even fiddled around with some HQ in! He was going sideways along the fence, I shooed his FQ away and made sure that his right back leg was on the third track, his front right and hind left were on the second track and his from left was on the first track. It was so cool and we did it with one rein!! I'm excited about it, although I don't think he knew what he was doing or how pretty he looked!
So, that's what we did today!
Hopefully on Tuesday or a little after we will get our results. I'm so glad I'm not going to be at Hallstrom when I'm hoping to hear back! YAY!
Talk to you later!
~Lea & Eddie~
Matthew 10:16

Thursday, September 3

I think that says it all!

Trot, trot, trot!

Yesterday Eddie and I had a really good ride. I played with him for about 35 minutes, then I tacked up (bbpad, hackamore) and we rode in the pasture. He did so super!!! We trotted the weave pattern, did point to point trotting, sideways over the barrels and without a fence, question box and trotted the clover leaf pattern a bit. He did really good and he was listening to my body the whole time. He is just so light! I love it! I'm getting so excited with our riding now. He's offering so much more! The only thing I think that we can work on is using the carrot stick. I haven't been using it just because that's a lot of things to have in your hand, but I really want to start working with it to get him lighter and more responsive to my body.
We have a great pathway! I really think we're diving in freestyle! Yippee!!!
I also played with Diesel & Scout yesterday. Diesel we worked on the 7 games and some stick to me. He's doing so good!!
Then with Scout, we played with circles, change of directions and transitions. Then I got on and rode and did some bridleless things. It's cool, I think he's so happy to have the freedom of freestyle now that he's with a natural farm/people. We did the bowtie Pattern, and the figure eight and ended there.
Still waiting for results from the Audition. I'll let you know when I hear back!
PICTURESS!!!

Now it's in His hands

Well yesterday I sent in my freestyle audition that I filmed back in June. I send it in and I just want to see what they say. It I pass, then I it will be a huge blessing, but if I don't, then we'll film in in the winter and practice some more. I'm so excited to see the results.
Yesterday I also played with Eddie in the round pen. His figure eights were amazing, so we stopped there before he was unmotivated. I got my finesse reins, hooked them onto his halter and hopped on. He was so silly! We walked around, did the figure eight, sidewaysed over the barrels and without a fence. He is SO light. We played the yoyo game back and forth to the barrel, and the 9 step back up. He did so good! We're really practicing our freestyle now. I'm confident and he has energy! lol! Oh! I have to tell you. I asked him to trot twice. The first time he was great. It was a bit bumpy because he was off in LBE lala land. But the second time. *starts to laugh hard* He started to skip, and my sister said it looked like a piaffe!!!! So here I am, holding on to his neck and he's offering me Level 5 stuff. lol! It was so funny!!! It really makes me believe we're going to go far. Because he knows EXACTLY what I want. He is beyond light now when I'm riding. All I have to do it touch the reins and he'll back up. Once we get his LBE lala land sorted out, then we can really start Level 3 freestyle.
I'm planning on riding today, so I'll let you know how it goes! I'm thinking we might do the weave pattern and a few other things.
Talk to you later! Here are pics from yesterday:
