Amazing Day!

Today was awesome! It was warmer out, there was no wind and we had a wonderful play day!

First, Eddie and I went out to the pasture and played at liberty. The pasture is about 2 1/2 acres, so we had a lot of room to run and play. We did some weave cones, and jumps. But what we did that was really fun, was... I would go by a barrel, called Eddie (who would be at the last barrel we were at) then he would run to me and stop at that barrel. Then I would run to the next thing and so on! It was awesome! :-) We also cantered around together sprinted around in the pasture and he was so happy to play! We both love playing at liberty in the pasture! Then, to finish it off, we ended with a long walk in the track. He's was so happy and spunky, we just had a lot of fun!

Second, Scout and I went for a walk outside of the track/pasture and through the woods on the south line. We trotted around, and once we had went all the way around the property, we went up through the orchard, to the backyard, around the front of the garage and to the big snow drifts. We would run through those (which were about 2 feet+ high) and then we would run out of them while Eddie watched and was jealous again. ;-) hehe, poor Eddie! But Scout and I had a blast and he doesn't get out often enough. Then we went into the round pen and I rode in there, then we left that and went into the barnyard. It was really fun and I think Scout really enjoyed himself!

Diesel's Day

My little shadow!
Introducing, DIESEL! Eddie was very sleepy, Scout was very sleepy, so Diesel and I went for a long walk all the way around the track! On the outside to be exact!
We foraged for grass (Diesel did, not I) and we meandered through the woods on the south line.
Our little Diesel is so super special to us! Not one of his previous owners took the time to get to know him, and he has such a loving heart. He's silly, but sweet. Feisty yet gentle. And he's my mom's little muffin.
So, he loves his walks and that what we did today! Eddie was very jealous, but it got him moving and it woke him up. lol!

Once Diesel and I were done with our walk, I took Eddie into the round pen and let him burn off some steam. He was very, very hyper (because they had been cooped up all morning because of the snow.) He cantered around, trotted to and fro and we played with some spins, since that was the only thing that we could successfully do. lol!!!
He did the spins really well, and we did some rollbacks too. Eddie was very happy for the play time, since he had gotten very jealous of Diesel. :-)

Ephesians 6:12-13
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Riding in the Snow!

Today was beautiful!! It was cloudy, but there was no wind and it was in the 30's. Yippee!! So much better than the 10-20 degree days we've been having.
So, first mom and I went out to On Eagle's Wings Equine Center and I trimmed Jigsaw. It had been 4 weeks since I last trimmed him and his feet were long, but in good shape. That was very exciting!! I'm glad that his feet are doing well now that I've taken them on.
Later today, Allison and I played with the horses out in the track. We went for a long walk around in the track, then we went in the outdoor and let Scout and Eddie run around together. It was really funny! Eddie was having a blast running around with Scout and Scout was rather annoyed that he had to run around. lol! But after that, Al and I hopped on for a good half an hour and just chilled with our ponies. We walked around, the horses ate snow and ice off of the barrels. Eddie was really good and he was quite a gentleman! I really worked on using my focus in turning him and he responded so well! Yay! :-) He's such a good boy!
Tomorrow is supposed to be just as warm and sunny as today, so I think it will be a wonderful day!

A Fun Day!

Snow jumps, new videos, freezing cold and hooves with ice balls! What could be more fun?!

Here is a new movie I made today. Most of the videos are from today, but a few are from yesterday and the day before. It's been very cold, but that sure hasn't stopped our playing!! :-)

Walkies!

It was FREEZING outside!! The wind was blowing, the high was 19, and it felt like 5 or something. :-/
So, needless to say, I didn't play with the horses, but I did take Eddie for a walk and spend a lot of time with them. Eddie and I went between the round pen and the tree grove and back towards the garden where there was a little less wind. Although not by much! We found lots of grassy spots, trotted around and just hung out together.

hehe, it's funny... I've realized that on the days that I do a lot with the horses, I don't get around to blogging. Mostly because I'm tired and I spent time outside, so there's more to do inside. But on the days that I can't do much with the horses, then I blog a lot because I can't go outside! :-/ Humph.... Kind of backwards, if ya ask me!
Anyway, that was a bit random...
Hopefully after this cold spell (today & tomorrow) then I'll be able to play with the horses more and, oh yes! I have to trim them all up again before Mike comes to take a look at their hooves. They are all looking fantastic though!

An Exciting Day!

Yesterday, was an amazing day!

I rode Eddie in the outdoor for a long time, we trotted around and had a wonderful time! He had a little trouble with some forequarter and hindquarter yields, so we played with that for awhile. He caught on really quickly and did them really lightly. So we trotted around some more and then dad took some pictures of us!

Eddie was so sleepy, and it was so nice and warm in the sun. The perfect day to ride!! :-)

Especially since it snowed that morning, and it snowed a lot! The flakes were ginormous!
After that, I rode Scout in the pasture for a little bit. He was really good, but definitely had a mind of his own!
We would be walking somewhere, and he would just LEAN into the rein and go the direction he wanted to go.
He doesn't give his opinion very often, so I just went with it and let him be in charge. It was really cute! :-)

Oh yes! And then dad led Scout and I skied behind him!!
It was so much fun! He would break into a trot and the snow was really slippery, so we were flyin! It was a blast and Scouty was such a good boy!
I took some video (or more like I set it on a barrel) so I will upload a video soon!

Hope that you all are staying warm!

Eddie's Family Tree

This could be an interesting post! I'm going to go as far back as I can with Eddie's registry. Thanks "A Year With Horses" (Kate) For the great idea!!!

Well, let's see. Eddie's registered name is R Big Time Edition. Now, let's go back to sire's side:

First, there's his dad, R Big Time Fancy, an APHA sorrel/overo
His parents are Mr. Fancy Bonanza (see below) and Sweet Celebration.

Then, there's Mr. Fancy Bonanza, Eddie's grandfather, who is a chestnut/overo.

Fancy Bonanza was sired by Mr. Supreme Bonanza and A Real Lover.

Now, Eddie's mom was Sonsational Beauty: whose parents were Sonsational Too and Jets Choice. :-( Unfortunately I couldn't dig up any info on them. But they are all paints. So Eddie is all paint, but sure doesn't look like it!

Very cool! And I think my family tree is interesting, our horses' is just as interesting too!!! :-) Maybe I can find something for Scout and Diesel... just maybe!

Playing with everybody!

January 15th.

It was very chilly today! Only in the 20's, no sun and plenty of wind to go around! :-p
But, I did play with all the horses!
I took Scout out over by the tree grove at first. I let him graze there for awhile, then we went into the round pen and had some fun. We trotted around, hopped over a few cavaletties and then I got on to ride a little bit. I just let him graze, we walked around, stood on the pedestal and.... grazed some more! hehe, he was such a good boy though! :-)
Then, Eddie and I went out to the track (the ponies were in the pasture) and we went for a lap together. Just going for a walk. We trotted some of the way, Mohan, one of our cats, followed us around the whole track. hehe, it was funny, I picked him up and he almost jumped on Eddie! He made me crack up! I don't think Eddie would have cared, but just to be sure, I didn't let him go up there. Plus, Eddie was very spunky, so I didn't want him to take off of something! We finished our walk, I let him graze for a little bit and then...
I took Diesel for a walk! :-) We went through the tree grove, up toward the house and to the backyard. The grass was VERY green over there, so he was as happy as a clam. And who knows why clams are happy.... ;-) Anyway, I let him graze for a little bit, then we headed back inside. it was very chilly out!!!

John 8:31-32
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

January 14th.

Today, we had a ton of fun in the snow!!
First, I played with Eddie out in the pasture while Al played with Scout too. We jumped over logs, I hopped on for a little bit, we did some turn'n'burn games, where we would back up next to each other, then I would run behind him, letting the rope slid through my hand. So, he would spin on his haunches, roll back, and then face me. It was really fun, and he was really enjoying himself!! They've been so playful!!!

Then, we hooked up Scout and Allison led him while I skied behind him! :-) It was so much fun!! We trotted, walked around, I got better with my turning, and Scout did so well. He is such a good boy!!!
Al and I switched then, and I led him while she skied. I think he was done by then, because he did a little buck (nothing huge) lol! But it was ok, we walked a little bit more and called it quits there. He was very willing!

We have snow again!

It was a very fun day! There was snow everywhere, it was sunny, there wasn't any wind and it was warm(er). So, I got to play with Eddie and Scout and ride both of them too! Which I was really happy about!

First, Scout and I went out to the pasture and ran around. He was so spunky, so we just had fun, he was swinging his head and just being silly!
We trotted over the cavaletties and he almost jumped the log which is huge for him! :-) Yay Scouty!

Then, I hopped on Scout, changed my line into reins and we rode around for a while.
He was really good, and I played with some stuff that we haven't done in a while. Whenever I would ask him to go somewhere, I would leave my reins for last and just turn my shoulders and think my way to where we wanted to go. He was a champ! Because he did it without a fuss and was much more engaged into what we were doing. Yippee!

--------------------------------------

Second, I let Scout go and then I haltered Eddie. We did the same thing in the pasture, we ran around, did some fun chase me game and he would spin around on
his hindquarters like I've never seen him spin before! lol! He was having a blast!
We jumped over the log, tube and did some cavaletti work. But moreover, Eddie was feeling silly too, so he spent a good part of the time chewing on my gloves, licking barrels, biting the tube, and chewing on his rope. What an oral horse I have!

So, while Eddie was licking the tube, I hopped on and just sat there for a little bit. Hey, it counts as riding! lol! But I hopped off, because he was spunky, and I know that when he wants to run, he runs! But hopefully we'll be able to ride more often now that we have snow!

Anyway, that's what I did with the horses today! I was outside from 11:45 to 2 and was very happy to come in and warm up. :-)
Here are some more pictures from today! Including Eddie chewing on my glove and me just laughing. Our horses are just the funniest bunch!

Playing in the Pasture

Today was a really fun day! It was warmer out, there was no wind, and it was just really quiet out today. So, Eddie and I played out in the pasture at liberty. We chased each other around, jumped over things together and went for a long walk around the pasture at liberty together. He was such a good boy and we were having a blast! We would run to one barrel, stop at that for a little bit, then we would trot to another one and so on. :-) It was just really fun, and it was nice to play in the sun! It's been so cold and windy lately, we haven't been able to do much because it was too cold.
Anyway, later this afternoon we went for a walk out by the round pen and past there to the tree grove. The horses were very happy for the grass! hehe, I almost hopped on too, because Eddie had gone down into the ditch and was a whole hand shorter! lol! It was really weird for his withers to be at eye level! Usually he's so much taller than me at 15.3 hands!

It was a really fun day and I hope that it snows soon! It's very... brown outside and it's only January, so there should be snow!! ;-)

Round Pen Play

For the last couple of days, Eddie and I have just been playing in the round pen. Mainly because the ground is so hard everywhere else, and there is a lot of grass in the round pen. So, he's been very happy to graze while we play, but that's fine with me! It's his reward after we do something together! :-)
We've also gone for more walks down to the orchard and he is enjoying that too. I'm really glad that it's not icy though. I think, with horses, we can take on anything but ice. We haven't really been riding much either, because of the ground being so hard. But hopefully we'll get some more snow soon and we can ride again. I have gotten lots of videos, so I'll make a video/movie soon. :-) I've also played with Diesel and Scout and taken them for walks too. It's just been really nice to spend time with them and regroup/think about where we want to go next. I think the next thing that I'm going to do with the horses is get our liberty better, and of course or riding. Hopefully the snow will come soon!

Exploring!!

Yesterday, Eddie and I went for a long walk around the pasture. We found some really green grass and Eddie was very hungry for it! lol! I took a few videos, and made some pictures out of them:
We trotted around at the very south-western corner of our property. It was really fun and Eddie was very happy to go for a walk! :-)
 Here are some more pictures!!
Isn't he just so handsome??! hehe!

Windy & Sunny!

Today, Eddie and I played out in the pasture! We trotted over the cavaletties, grazed for a little bit and then just chilled together. :-) It was cold out and windy, so I was freezing pretty quickly. But we had fun anyway! I am glad that we got to play today, and maybe tomorrow we'll be able to ride!

hehe, oh and we are also snow-less. :-( It all melted over New Years, so it doesn't not feel like winter, more like a bitterly cold April. Ah well, it's sunny and that's all that matters! I think it's supposed to snow soon too!

Happy New Year - 1/1/11!!!

Well, isn't that a fun title!!
Today was windy, cold, cloudy and it was not enjoyable being outside in it. However, seeing the horses' happy faces, always ready to greet you, made it very tolerable! So, needless to say, I didn't play with Eddie, but I did groom he and Scout. Their feet are looking amazing, and I'm so excited that I can trim them myself now. All I have to do now is learn more and then I can trim other peoples' horses too! Which is very exciting!
Here are some of my goals for the new year:
  • Now that we can trot with ease, it's my goal to start cantering this year.
  • Learn from other natural hoofcare professionals and be able to trim Jigs independently
  • Get to the bottom of Eddie's colic-y cramps
  • Finish high school this spring! Yahoo!
  • Take more horse nutrition courses
We shall see how I do. ;-) I think that we'll have a fantastic year!!
