Mud

M
U
D
Those are the three letters that do not go well together. Especially when a certain someone really wants to ride and play with her horse.
It's been rainy, windy, cloudy, chilly and wet outside and the that's the horses' least favorite weather.

So we've only been able to do small things like go for walks, go out for a graze together, or just trim and groom them up.
Oh yes! That's something I can blog about! Trimmmmmmmmmmmmmming!
I did Eddie's feet two days ago and Scout's three days ago. They are all looking great! Their feet are getting soft, but hey, a horse's hoof is the product of his environment. Can you say WET?! It's been so wet out, so that's why their feet are all soft. And my sister and mom have been helping me practice for my exam. :-) What would I do without my family? <3
But yeah... My exam's in August and I have plenty of time to practice for it.

Hoping for a sunny tomorrow,

When it Rains it Pours

:-p
BLECH!
I hate rain.

Ok. Rant. Done.

I didn't really get to play with Eddie today. :-( That makes me sad. But we did go for a walk together. We went around the outside of the corncrib and grazed out in the rain. I just couldn't help it and he sure didn't mind being out in the rain and out of his stall. Standing there with my horse and my outback hat in the rain seemed kinda cool to me. I've had a growing dream that I will have to blog about later. I want to do it someday and I pray that I'll be able to.
Anyway, we went for a walk around the corncrib and then went out to the pasture for a romp around there. We did a lap and trotted just a little bit. But it was way too slippery to do anything else.
Here's to a sunny day! I'm hoping that it's sunny out tomorrow.

Even Though It Rained

...We still got to play!
In fact I played with all the horses today.

First, Diesel and I went for a walk all around the property. Let me just say that he LOVES it. We did a whole lap, went through the pines, through the south line and he was very happy to be out eating the yummy long grass.
Then Eddie and I played in his paddock because he was too scared to go out and play. Poor Eddie... He's been nervous the past two days. I don't know if it's just because of the colder weather, or what. But even Scout has been spooky and scared lately. Anyway, we chased each other, did some fast backups, rollbacks, spanish walk, and cutting game. He sure does love that cutting game!
Lastly, Scout and I went for a walk on the track and he was pretty spooky. Those darn kitties that come up out of nowhere... So, I let him loose and he ran back home. Well... actually he ran out to the pasture and I let him graze on the long grass. Bad me. I shouldn't do that. He's somewhat IR and even if he gets a little bit of too rich grass, it gives him a - how do I put this - loose stool.
*clears throat*
It was a pretty nice morning if you don't count the cold wind and cloudy sky. The horses were happy to play. Very happy. And so was I!

Finally Getting Some Play Time In!

Eddie and I playing with the sprinkler! :-) He was a little unsure at first, but eventually got used to it!
Yesterday, Eddie and Scout and I finally got some play time in! Yahoooo!!! It was cooler (still 90 though) and Eddie and I played in the outdoor and track. He was sort of sleepy, so we played in puddles in the outdoor and rode through them. It was really fun! Then, we went for a walk in the track and just hung out together. I was thinking about going for a trail ride, but I was the only one out there and usually I like to have another pair of hands around in case something goes wrong. Anyway, he really enjoyed his walk and our riding is getting more soft every time we ride. I literally only have to think about what I would like to do and do a subtle cue and Eddie gets it. He is so smart and I am so blessed to have him in my life!

Scout and I played next! Oh. My. Goodness. Did we have fun!!! We went around the entire property and he was having a blast! We went through the south line, up through the orchard, in front of the house and to the west gate. Then we went through the pine trees and Scouted pooped by them. hehe! Ooops! That will surprise dad when he mows! lol! Anywho, we went to the north gate after that and back up the driveway to the barn. :-) It was so fun and Scout just LOVES going for walks. I don't blame him - I love them too!

P.S. Diesel is doing SO much better. He is completely back to normal. On second thought, he is even better than normal. :-) We have such a happy herd!

It's Raining!

YES! Today is the first time since the beginning of July, we've had rain. The pastures haven't grown much, the lawn is almost brown and our corn is starting to shrivel. Our beans aren't doing so hot either since it's been so... well... hot and dry.
It's been raining all morning and will probably last until noon.
So, the horses are in and eating hay and maybe this afternoon I'll even play with Eddie for a while. Gosh, it's been about a week since I've played with him. :-( I don't like it one bit!
Anywho, Diesel is doing fantastic and is eating so well now. His mouth is doing so much better and he's pretty much back to normal! Yay! Praise God!
I watched Pete Ramey's That's My Horse dvd about the draft horse hooves he was working on, this morning. It was a nice way to pass the time as the thunder and lightning came through.
Yep, just a lazy day here on the farm - hanging out with the horses and my sister! <3

P.S. I woke up to this song playing on K-Love. Quite appropriate, right? :-)

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

Rain

Yesterday, I played with all of the horses in between rain showers. It was so much fun! First, Scout and I went in the outdoor and played for a nice long time, but every 10 minutes or so, we would have to canter back inside because I could see these rain bands coming in. It was actually really cool. The woods, about a mile or so from us, would become obscure and just turn white. I knew it was time to start heading in because then the rain would come over the field and it would downpour. But, Scout and I had a blast! We did a few figure eight patterns and then he just wanted to canter. lol! So I let him get his energy out before we went for our liberty walk. Those are so much fun and Scout just loves them! He'll just walk beside me all the way around the track and then we race up the last side. :-) How fun!

I let Diesel in the outdoor with us and the 'little boys' ran around together. It was so funny and Diesel was so spunky! I would have gotten some video of it, but like I said, it was raining and I don't want our camera to get ruined. Anyways, after Diesel and Scout ran around for a while, I put them back in their paddocks until it was time for them to go back out.

Next was Eddie!! We played in the outdoor too and he was SO hyper! Well... I guess they all were hyper yesterday. It was cool, windy and cloudy - super scary weather for them. Ah well. Eddie and I did some fun things together, went for a walk and ran inside countless times to avoid a downpour. Although Eddie didn't mind, we had fun nonetheless! We went back into the outdoor after we went for a walk and I let him kick up his heels. He would buck, and then rear and then 'turn'n'burn' and hop completely off of the ground. 0_0 I just stayed out of his way and he finally settled down. It was fun though, and he really enjoyed the run around time!
Oh yeah! And I also started working on mounting while Eddie is moving! I did it at a walk and was able to get on, so I'll have to practice that some more.
I know this is a long shot, but someday I want to be able to do this! :-)
